Sold Out: Paddle and Paint, Sketch and Saunter: Create an Adirondack Nature Journal

  • Elk Lake Lodge 1106 Elk Lake Road, North Hudson, NY 12855 North Hudson, NY (map)
Canoeing in the Adirondacks

An inspiring opportunity to develop your sketching and painting skills while creating a nature journal amid the magnificent woods and waters surrounding Elk Lake Lodge. In this workshop, we will leisurely paddle and hike to a variety of locations, where I will provide guidance on capturing the area’s wild and vibrant landscapes and flora in your sketchbook. You will build your own sketchbook practice, combining watercolor, drawing, and written notes to record the landscapes, light, and spirit of the region. Guided exercises and inspiration — from artists past and present—will help you explore color, composition, and create a personal record of place and experience. Whether you are new to sketching or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop invites you to observe, record, and delight in the Adirondacks through color, line, and memory.

Joe Dadey, Executive Director of Adirondack Hamlets to Huts, will serve as your New York State Certified Guide during our daily explorations. Our focus will be on immersive experiences rather than mileage, observing both the intimate details and the grand vistas of this remarkable region. Our travels will focus on immersing in place, not mileage, and the lens will vary from the micro to the macro.
